about

Rona Mac's new single 'Polidics' takes her home-production to a new level, fusing her unique sound with new, dance-able zest. This track is the first single from an EP due out in March 2022. The track speaks of frustration at the way things are with consumerism, class and power, ending with a vision where “we'll rise, a bunch of honest creatures fill the skies”. This simultaneously punchy and ethereal break into the second phase of the song is coloured with toothy guitar licks and 80s
groove.

lyrics

It's all just fucking words I'm sick of it
Found myself stuck in the stink of it
Promises of change unbounded
Turns out all you do it think of it

And men in jackets sit importantly
Talking pouring port in front of me
Clink your glass and drink that chaser
Well done, doubt you've ever thought of me

It's all just glitching screens and bodies,
Screen through screen twitch fight, and lobby
Money's racked in lines so take it
Fill your thoughts with man's white hobby

Speak with thumbs and lie with imagery
Days depressed and nights on ecstasy
Crammed in boxes, back to back with
Strangers chained to their identity

And lay me down
To run away from it
Touch in spaces
I've been hiding in

I'll move on, move on
To where they cannot find me, hands among
The flowers and the grasses

Yeah I'm young, I'm young
But I feel like I can see straight through the sun
And when I push on past it

It's on fire, on fire
The ultimate destruction we desire
These self-denying pastures

So we'll rise, we'll rise
A bunch of honest creatures fill the skies
To leave behind the masses.

about

Rona Mac Wales, UK

I write atmospheric Indie-pop songs about things that feel real to me, in hope that they might feel real to other people. I'm from West Wales, I'm 28, I'm gay, and I live in a caravan where I write, record + mix music. If I can talk about things we've been told we shouldn't, and help people connect to feelings they tucked away in their teens, then I'll be happy when I'm old. So I'm giving it a go. ... more
